Where it is

Dundarave sits just west of Ambleside, from about 19th Street to 30th Street, and from the beach up the hill to the Upper Levels Highway. People draw the boundaries a little differently, so on this page Dundarave means that area, and the figures and homes above are drawn from it.

The village and the pier

The heart of Dundarave is a few blocks of Marine Drive around 24th and 25th Street: cafés, restaurants, a bakery and small shops, one block up from the water. At the foot of 25th Street are Dundarave Park, its beach and the pier, one of the North Shore’s favourite spots for an evening walk. The Centennial Seawalk runs east from here along the shore to Ambleside.

Around the neighbourhood

At the eastern edge, around 20th to 22nd Street, are the West Vancouver Memorial Library, the Community Centre and the Aquatic Centre, all within walking distance for much of Dundarave. Park Royal is a short drive east, and Cypress Provincial Park a short drive up the mountain.

The homes

Most of Dundarave is detached homes on quiet, tree-lined streets that climb the hill behind the village, many with water views. Close to the village there are apartments and townhomes for those who want the beach and cafés on their doorstep. To the west, along Marine Drive, are some of West Vancouver’s most significant waterfront estates. That range shows in the asking prices above.

Schools

Dundarave is in the West Vancouver School District, and the public school catchment depends on the exact address, so check it for any home you’re considering before you make an offer. Why catchments matter

Buying in Dundarave

I look at three things on every home here:

  • The street: two homes a block apart can differ a great deal in view, slope, sun and traffic.
  • The house: its age and systems, drainage on the hillside, and what zoning allows on the lot.
  • Apartments and townhomes: the strata. I read the minutes, the depreciation report and any special levies before you write an offer.

The numbers above tell you what the market is like today. A walk-through with me tells you whether a particular home is worth its price.
